I see the man that dashes from one screen to the next each time I close my eyes. The thought of his superhuman speed and height cause me to feel like I am drowning, I can even feel the water touch my head and drip down my face.
I look at the row of blackened screens again, he's getting closer to the bottom right corner. I grip the arms of my chair in an effort to stop the shaking, consequently making it more severe.
I can hear his footsteps
Nonsense. He is still two floors above my head, unless I somehow found myself equipped with super hearing too, its just my imagination.
Its probably because he's running so fast.
No man is that heavy-or fast.
Just look at him, he's no ordinary man! How could "an ordinary man" disable security cameras as soon as he passes them?
Some electronic. That's all-
An electronic that seems to be gaining speed? Look there, he just did one before he passed it.
Shut up.
He's getting closer...
Shut up shut up.
He's going to kill you...
SHUT. UP.
Slowly maybe? Or with a swift bullet to the head? Surely painful just like you did with her...
Shut up! Please it, "Was an accident!" the last part chokes out and I grab my head as I double over. My thoughts must silence or I will not be able to contain myself.
"T, do you need something?"
I release my head and slowly glance at the intercom. Controlling my quickened breathing, I push the button "No, sor-" I catch myself, I obviously am not thinking straight, "Um, I'm good, you may leave" the authority returns to my voice, "to your home, you may go, to your home".
Silence.
Your losing your touch.
I know.
Whatever you do don't look out the window.
The window blinds are closed.
You can't hear the tapping?
No...
Sure you do, listen.
Well, maybe.
There's probably one of his men behind there.
Perhaps I should investigate.
Oh sure, pull the blinds, see the overly large smile full of glinting teeth and the empty eye sockets.
I'll just sit here. There is no tapping. No tapping.
Nonetheless I sit ramrod straight and try not to think about the open door behind me. Try not to watch the man now on the floor above my head. Try not to hear thoughts in my own head.
"Goodbye ma'am"
How sweet, he knows whats going to happen to you.
I hesitate, I should do my best not to show my soft side, Father says. At least until I can get rid of it. Oh whatever.
"Goodbye Tayte." I unplug the small box.
Sweet kid, will probably grab your silver on the way out-
"Veeeeeeew" the power goes out in the building.
He's here.
It's okay, I'm okay, I adjust myself in my chair. I have a remote for the generator light. I swallow hard and more sweat beads my arm.
He's killed many to get here, your his final target you know.
Yes.
Okay, now I definitely hear his footsteps.
I listen, indeed they echo and shake the doors he passes.
There's still time, hurry! Get up and close the doors! He can never get through them, you can escape out the window!
I-
More doors shake, I hear my Father and aunt's voices again, "This mission is very very important T." "Its easy, he comes in to get you, you end him." "Add some flare, some show of confidence if you like." "Nothing can go wrong!"
Sure, nothing except he had grown extremely strong since he was fifteen. He had been training for this, for revenge.
I will myself to move, to close the doors, but what if he's standing there when I do? I'm not so scared of him, but I don't want to see him.
He's one door down. He's found you.
I grab a cloth and wipe the sweat away, I hear his footsteps, walking slowly now towards the room. I look around at the dark shadowing me when his footsteps stop.
Ok, hes in the room, can't your feel him? Push the button!
I grip the gun in my lap and the remote in my hand.
Knock knock, anyone home? He's not getting any further!!
I am paralyzed in fear, I can hear his breath behind me somewhere.
For heaven sakes move! Please move!
I can't do this. I can't. I'm going to throw up.
He's behind you! He's spotted you! He's walking over! MOVE!
In one motion I cross my legs, push the button and swivel around to face him, gun drawn. The light above me illuminates the man supposed to be standing at the door, a mere two feet from me. Gun at the ready towards my forehead.
I gracefully stifle my scream and slyly smile.
Tilting my head on my fist I notice his slightly startled appearance.
Thank goodness.
His grip on the gun tightens as does mine.
